Amalric's 14c. English Harness (or 1c. SCA imitation thereof...)

This page will be a display of the harness I wear and find success with in fighting in the SCA.  There will be a description of the methods used and why I find they work for me. I will try to put pictures up for each area as I can.

The Black Prince era is my favorite for arms and armour in our game. I try to look like I am wearing that period of armour when I fight.

Helm - 14c. bascinet
Purchased from Mandrake Armoury (now owned by Windrose Armoury) at Pennsic 33. I am very pleased with the helm, and will one day finish the rigging of it.  :-)
Gorget - I have always used a courboilli leather gorget with reinforcements, but I am looking into making a more period transitional 'brigantine style' gorget soon. I'll layout the pattern of both eventually for this page.
Leg Harness - Articulated Stainless knees purchased from Cold Steel Armoury about 10 years ago. These are showing their age and need to be replaced soon. The cuisses are Kydex-T covered in red suede. The design is medieval, but the materials are not. Arm Harness - Single 'floating cop' style vambrace with no rerebrace. The cop I use is titanium with a leather vambrace. Since I did not harden the leather at the time I lightly padded the vambraces with about 1/8" closed cell foam.
Body - four plate torso bracelet made of Kydex-T tied on with cravats. I wear this under either a 14c. Leintner  or a Tabard so it is never seen in use. Shield - Aircraft aluminum shield blank with a leather shield face that is lightly carved and painted. I use a geige (shoulder strap) to carry the shield and I do NOT use a shield basket.
Gauntlets - I have been using a pair of Egg Armoury kydex gauntlets for several years. I like the way they work, though I do not like the way they look. I do like the design, and look forward to getting a pair of stainless gauntlets in the same design soon. More info to follow on that subject soon.

I also use a demi-gauntlet for single handed basket hilted sword. Leather with padding.
Weapons:
Swords - "Cage" Basket Hilt taped on to the rattan.  Pipe clamps break and/or loosen.
Bastard Sword - heater hose quillons.
Polearm - Small quillons for blocking just below the blade. Right now it is too long (7')and needs a 1' piece chopped off of it.

Philosophy - Mine. I am only expressing my attitudes and discoveries. Others may agree or disagree with it. I have gathered these opinions over my 26 years as a fighter in the SCA. I'm always up for discussion.

Please send me any armour images you have with a blurb about the way it works for you and I might post it from this page for folks to look at too.
